Michael King, and the team at Plumbase Stowmarket, Suffolk chose to support our charity as their Charity of the Year in 2024.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Plumbase Stowmarket customers and Michael King for their incredible gesture of support raising £1602 Your commitment to raising asbestos awareness amongst the plumbing community, many of whom have historically worked with asbestos and who may still encounter the banned substance in their work was inspiring, helping to improve attitudes towards the dangerous material.
By choosing our small charity, Michael and his team championed the cause of those affected by asbestos-related diseases decades after their initial exposure and this means the world to us, and to the many individuals and families we serve.
It is truly inspiring to see local businesses like Plumbase Stowmarket taking such an active role in supporting causes that make a tangible difference in the local community. This organisations generosity will directly assist the charity in continuing its vital work to improve the lives of those living with asbestos-related conditions, such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and pleural thickening.
Michael King comments “We chose a local charity for our charity of the year as we wanted to help a grassroots organisation where we would make the greatest impact. Having attended one of the EEA PSG monthly socials, I witnessed firsthand the members affected by asbestos disease decades on and it is heartening to see a great group of attendees being supported in a relaxed and uplifting environment, outside of the medical setting in what is clearly a difficult time for many of the attendees. I am proud to help raise awareness of asbestos in my industry, and supporting this charity has galvanised my efforts to tell more people about the dangers of asbestos which many plumbers may still encounter and how it can cause immense suffering in the future if ignored”
In addition to the continued support, we are excited to share that a portion of the funds raised will go towards purchasing fans for our attendees. Many individuals suffering from shortness of breath benefit greatly from the relief that handheld fans provide, helping to reduce anxiety and even decreasing the need for oxygen therapy. This will be a significant step in improving the comfort and well-being of those we care for, allowing them to experience some ease in their daily lives.
Phoebe Osborne, Charity Chair comments: “The funds raised through our partnership with Plumbase Stowmarket last year will enable us to offer essential support services to people affected by asbestos exposure, providing them with the help, information, and care they need during incredibly difficult times. We are deeply grateful to them for raising awareness about asbestos in their store and for their customers kindness for donating funds throughout last year which will make a lasting impact in the lives of those affected by these life-altering diseases”.
Thank you once again to Plumbase Stowmarket and Michael King for your exceptional generosity and for standing with us and the asbestos-affected community.
